What is the GED test like?

The GED consists of four subjects:

  • Mathematical Reasoning
  • Reasoning Through Language Arts
  • Science
  • Social Studies
 

How is the GED test given?

All GED testing is computer based.

You will need the following computer skills:

  • Mouse skills (click, double-click, drag-and-drop)
  • Keyboard and typing skills to type answers
  • Copy and paste
  • Use a scroll bar
  • Undo/redo edits
  • Use an online calculator

How can I prepare for the GED test?

 Study on your own:

  • Books: Search the library catalog for study books.
  • Online: Use our Peterson's Test & Career Prep database or Learning Express Library, both of which offer online practice tests and online books (requires Mesa Public Library card and PIN to access). The GED Testing Service site also offers free online GED practice tests for each subject
  • Computer tutorials:  the computer tutorials listed above will help you prepare for the computer-based GED test.

Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest - GEDWorks
The costs of GED services are generously covered by donors, contracts, and grants through Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest to allow student to obtain a GED at no cost to them.
