Grade 8 +.  With her mama, recently dead and her pa sight unseen since birth, Amelia is suddenly in charge of her younger brother and sister-- and the family gas station. Buxbaum, Julie. Tell Me Three Things. c2016. Grade 10 +.  Sixteen-year old Jessie, still grieving over her mother's death, must move from Chicago to "The Valley," with a new stepfamily but no new friends until an anonymous fellow student (somebody/nobody) emails and offers to help her navigate the school's treacherous social waters. Kurt, Dinan. Don’t get Caught. c2016. Grade 9 +.  To his great surprise, uncool eleventh-grader Max Cobb is invited to join the Chaos Club, an exclusive group of students responsible for some of the biggest pranks at his high school.  YA FIC Dinan.
Gardner, Whitney. You’re Welcome Universe. c2017. Grade 9 +. When Julia finds a slur about her best friend scrawled across the back of the Kingston School for the Deaf, she covers it up with a beautiful (albeit illegal) graffiti mural. Her supposed best friend snitches, the principal expels her, and her two mothers set Julia up with a one-way ticket to a “mainstream” school in the suburbs, where she’s treated like an outcast as the only deaf student. The last thing she has left is her art, and not even Banksy himself could convince her to give that up.   YA FIC Gardner.
Hiaasen, Carl. Skink no Surrender. c2014. Grade 9 +. To avoid being shipped off to boarding school, Malley takes off with some guy she met online. Richard knows his cousin' in trouble before she does. Wild Skink-- the ragged, one-eyed ex-governor of Florida-- is enough of a renegade to think he can track Malley down. Kennedy, Kate. Learning to Swear in America. c2016. Grade 9 +.  Brought over from Russia to help NASA prevent an asteroid from colliding with Earth, seventeen-year-old physics genius Yuri feels awkward and alone until he meets free-spirited Dovie.  YA FIC Kennedy.
Kincaid. S.J. The Diabolic. c2016. Grade 9 +. Nemesis is a Diabolic, a humanoid teenager created to protect a galactic senator's daughter. Raised side by side, Nemesis would give her life for Sidonia-- and take as many lives as necessary to keep Sidonia safe. When the power-mad Emperor learns Sidonia's father is participating in a rebellion, he summons her to the Galactic court to serve as a hostage. Nemesis must become Sidonia to save her. Lu, Marie. Legend (Legend Novel bk 1). c2011. Grade 8 +.  In a dark future, when North America has split into two warring nations, fifteen-year-olds Day, a famous criminal, and prodigy June, the brilliant soldier hired to capture him, discover that they have a common enemy.  YA FIC Lu
McCreight, Kimberly. The Outliers. c2016.  Grade 9 +.  It all starts with a text: Please, Wylie, I need your help. Wylie hasn’t heard from Cassie in over a week, not since their last fight. But that doesn’t matter. Cassie’s in trouble, so Wylie decides to do what she has done so many times before: save her best friend from herself.  YA FIC McCreight.
McNeil, Gretchen. I’m Not Your Manic Pixie Dream Girl. c2016. Grade 9 +.  Beatrice Maria Estrella Giovannini is starting senior year at the top of her class, she’s a shoo-in for a scholarship to M.I.T., and she’s got a new boyfriend she’s crazy about.
