Earth Day

Earth Day, celebrated since 1970, is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

We're celebrating with lots of fun, earth-friendly events all month long!

 

Main Library

Teen Crafternoon: Record Mandalaearth day

Feeling crafty? Drop by the Teen Zone to make a record mandala in celebration of Earth Day. Supplies are limited. Ages 12-18. 

Painted Pages*
Tues | Apr 16 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm | THINKspot at the Main Library
It's paint night, with a twist! Give an old book bound for the recycling bin new life as you create your own watercolor masterpiece using its pages as a canvas. No experience is necessary, and materials will be provided. Ages 18+. Registration is required.

Smart Cycling Fundamentals*

Bicycling can be an earth-friendly alternative to driving. During this introductory workshop, learn about basic bicycle techniques, rules, and equipment, and get a brief update on Mesa's bicycle projects and events. All participants will receive free bicycle safety gear. Ages 12+. Presented by the City of Mesa Bicycle and Pedestrian Program. Registration is required.

 

Red Mountain Library

Recycled Art Night

Celebrate Earth Day early this year and drop by for an hour of sustainable creativity! Help us create a unique mural using recycled materials for display in the library or create your own work of art. Bring the whole family.

Master Gardening: Desert Adaptive Plants and Foraging
Sat | Apr 20 | 1:00pm – 3:00pm | Red Mountain Library
Master Gardener Laura Ward will discuss how to plant and care for desert-adapted ground covers, shrubs, and trees in your yard for year-round color and low water use. She will also talk about foraging for native desert edibles, either in your yard or growing in the wild.

YAAS! Presents: Earth Day Seed Bombs
Tues | Apr 23 | 6:00pm – 7:30pm | Red Mountain Library
Celebrate Earth Day with YAAS! We will learn how to take care of our planet from a lifelong environmentalist. We will also play with dirt and clay to make seed bombs that can easily be planted anywhere. This is a fun and easy project anyone can do when they check out seeds from our seed library. Ages 14-24.
