Request a Reconsideration of Materials
Any Mesa Public Library cardholder may request that an item in the library’s collections be reviewed to ensure it complies with the Collection Guidelines. A title will be reviewed only once within a five year period unless the content has undergone major revisions.
The procedure for reconsideration of material is as follows:
- The customer must complete the Mesa Public Library Request for Reconsideration of Material form and submit it online or to any public service desk.
- The customer seeking reconsideration must read, view, or listen to the entirety of the work before requesting reconsideration of library material.
- Collection Support Services (CSS) will communicate the library’s receipt of the customer’s Request for Reconsideration within 5 business days and will advise that a written recommendation will be mailed within 4 weeks.
- A CSS selection librarian will review the material in question, research the request, and make a recommendation.
- The CSS selection librarian will present their recommendation to the Library Director and Branch Coordinator. The Library Director approves the recommendation.
- A CSS selection librarian will contact the customer to discuss the customer’s request, the library’s decision and recommendation regarding the material.
- The library’s decision will be mailed within 4 weeks of the original request.
- If the customer is not satisfied with the library’s decision, the customer may file a written notice of appeal within 4 weeks to the Library Director.
