Homebound Services Aide (Homebound
Brochure)
Help us assure that Mesa's homebound population is able to gain
access to the library's collection of books and materials. Each
Homebound Services Aide will be assigned up to four homebound patrons.
Homebound Services Aides will learn their patron's needs, likes and
dislikes, select appropriate books from the general collection, learn
to use the library's catalog and other resources for locating books,
drive their personal vehicle to make deliveries, and set up a schedule
with each patron so that our homebound patrons know when they will be
receiving books. This position is great for someone who needs a
flexible volunteering schedule and who likes to make personal
connections with those in need.
Sales Desk Attendant
Corner Bookstore at the Main Library is
looking for friendly, detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy working
with the public and with cash registers. Help the Mesa Library raise
money for special programs by selling withdrawn and donated Library
materials to the public. Must be a year-round resident and able to
make a one-year time commitment. There are five shifts open at varying
times during the week.
Red Mountain Library Shelving
Assistant
The Circulation Department at the Red
Mountain Branch is looking for adults and teens (14 and older) to
assist with sorting and shelving books. Work with Library Staff to
straighten library sections, sort books, put carts in order, unpack
and stack books, process reserve slips and shelve A/V materials. This
is a summer opportunity that may continue into the fall. Must be able
to organize, alphabetize and physically able to bend, reach, push a
cart and stand for 2 hours at a time.
AZ Braille and Talking
Book Program
Be part of a team that records books onto tape for
blind library patrons. Three positions are available. The Narrator
records books by reading them in a way consistent with the author's
intent. The Monitor works as a partner with the Narrator and controls
all technical operations during the recording session. The Reviewer
checks the recordings for artistic and technical quality. Training is
provided.
Talking
Book Machine Repair Specialist
Volunteers are used to repair
"Talking Book" cassette tape players for the blind and
handicapped. This volunteer should have some knowledge of electrical and
assembly drawings and be able to provide a basic tool kit. This position
requires good eyesight, good manual dexterity and fair hearing.
Volunteers are needed to work at the Main Library on Tuesdays from
12:00-4:00p.m.
Talking Book Instruction Specialist
Would you like to make a difference in the life of an elderly or
visually challenged person? Volunteer to instruct new talking book
machine users in the use of the playback equipment and make home
deliveries to exchange machines in need of repair for current users.
This position requires a clear speaking voice, patience, and gentle
assertiveness. Applicants must have their own transportation, but
will be reimbursed for miles driven. Hours vary from 17-20 per
month, depending on the number of applicants accepted into the
Talking Book Program. Each instructional session takes around 40
minutes to an hour.
