What is a Book Group Kit?

“Book Group Kits” are a great way for your Book Club to enjoy great discussions— check out a Kit of your favorite title from our library. All Kits check out for six (6) weeks and each one may contain:

1. Ten (10) copies of one title. (Check library catalog for additional copies.)
2. Summary of the story
3. Author biographical information
4. Questions
5. Reviews, criticism and/or further related reading

How can my book group use a Kit?

1. The Kit is checked out to one book group member who is responsible for returning complete Kits, including all materials. Each book in a Kit is numbered so leaders can account for copies borrowed by group members. Included in each Kit is a group sign-in sheet that can be photocopied, with space for keeping track of each numbered copy. Individuals in book groups should arrange to reimburse their responsible party for lost or damaged items.
2. The group may keep the Kit for up to six (6) weeks.
3. Kits may not be renewed.
4. Kits can be picked up and returned inside any of the Mesa Public Libraries. Kits must be manually checked out by circulation staff – not with self-checkout machines – to have a 6-week check-out period.
5. You may reserve a specific Kit at least one week and up to 12 months before your discussion by filling out a Book Group Kits Request form at an “Ask Here” desk or online at www.mesalibrary.org.
6. Please wait for availability confirmation by library staff. Another group may have already reserved your title. For best service, give the Library at least a week’s notice and be sure to list an alternate title on the request form.
7. All Kits are stored at the Main branch, but after confirmation of reservation, may be sent to any branch to be picked up.
8. At any time, two (2) different titles may be checked out to any single patron and up to ten (10) additional titles requested.
9. Kits must be returned to the library’s “Ask Here” Desk.
10. All materials in each Kit must be returned together; a library staff member will inventory the Kit upon return.
11. There is a daily late fee of $.25 a day for a Kit returned after the due date, and fines will also be charged for lost or damaged materials.
12. If your group happens to lose a book, you can replace it with another new condition copy of the book (same edition/ISBN) or pay a replacement fee of $15.00.
     
    • Binder replacement is $10.00.
    • Bag replacement is $30.00.
    • If your group loses a Book Group Kit, the cost to replace the entire Kit is $140.00.
       

Please return Kits promptly so they will be available for other groups.
