Library Cards & PINs

Please Note: If you have questions about your library card record, please call (480) 644-2723. To protect your privacy, we do not answer questions relating to your library card record via email. Please have your library card number ready when you call.

Getting Your Card

Come to any Mesa Public Library to get a library card. Click here for library locations.

Anyone who lives in Maricopa County is eligible for a free Mesa library card. Out of county residents who work or attend school in Mesa are also eligible for a free Mesa library card. Out of county residents who do not work or attend school in Mesa must pay a $40.00 annual fee for their Mesa library card.

Acceptable Identification for Getting a Library Card
  • State Issued Driver’s License

  • State Issued ID

  • Correctional Facility issued ID (Probation ID)

  • Non-U.S. Driver’s License (Canadian, Mexican, etc.)

  • School ID (charter, secondary, or college)

  • Military ID

  • Tribal ID

  • Passport / Visa

  • Bank Card with Photo

  • Work ID with Photo and full name

  • SAM’s Club or Costco card with Photo and full name

  • Resident Alien Card

  • Mexican Voter’s Registration Card

Address Verification

Verification of current address information must be made at the time of the card being issued. Acceptable forms of address verification may include:

  • State Issued Driver’s License with current address

  • State Issued ID

  • Personalized Checks

  • Lease Agreement

  • Vehicle Registration

  • Voter Registration

  • Utility Bill

  • Any legal document with a current address

  • Any postmarked piece of mail within the last ten days addressed to the card applicant

Please note: You may be issued a library card without an acceptable form of address verification. On your next visit to the library you must provide a form of address verification.

How to Get a PIN (Personal Identification Number)
  • PINs must be 4 digits long. If you currently have a PIN that is not 4 digits long you will need to change it in person at any Mesa Public Library.

  • PINs can only be issued in person at the library.

  • Come to the Check Out desk of any Mesa Public Library to choose your PIN.

  • You will need your Mesa library card and some identification.

  • You choose your PIN. Please pick a number that will be easy for you to remember.

  • Your PIN must be numerals only, 4 digits long.

  • After you have been issued a PIN, you can change your PIN on our website.

If you have forgotten your PIN, you will need to bring your library card and identification to the Check Out desk of the library to be reminded of your PIN. We cannot issue or remind you of your PIN via email or telephone.

What you can do with your PIN

  • Access your library card information by telephone or on our web site.

  • Access the 40+ Article and Information databases available on our web site.

  • Use the Internet at any of our libraries for one hour per day.

Renewing Your Library Card

Your card will not expire as long as you use it once a year, however we update all library card records annually. We will ask you to show identification and verify your address and phone number.

Library Cards for Minors under 18 years of age

Minors without ID must have a parent or legal guardian present.

Minors with ID must also know their current phone number, address and guardianship information otherwise a guardian with ID must be present.

If a minor has forgotten their card, we will issue a Forgot Cards following the above policies.

A parent or legal guardian must be listed on the minor's library card account and must accept responsibility for all items borrowed.

Internet Guest Pass Fee $1 per hour
Holds Not Picked Up after 7 Days 50¢ each
Damaged or Lost Item Cost of Item + $5 Processing Fee
Replacement Library Card $2 (any replacement)
Print outs from all Computers (black & white only) 20¢ per page
Print outs from all computers (color) $1 per page
Print outs from Microfilm and Microfiche machines 20¢ per page
Collection agency:
Any library account with a balance of $50 dollars (including fines, damaged or lost items) or more will be sent to a collection agency. A $15 Collection Agency Fee will be added to the account if it is sent to collection.
Card Limits:

Items Checked Out
Maximum number of checked out items allowed on your card is 35.
• There is no limit on the number of materials you may check out on the same subject. During peak times near holidays, we may ask you to limit the number of titles on holiday themes.

Holds
• Maximum number of holds you may have on your card is 10.
• For each hold not picked up, a 50¢ fee will be charged.
• To place holds on items that are available on the shelf at the library (checked in), please call the library of your choice:

   (480) 644-3184 - Red Mountain Branch
   (480) 644-3441 - Dobson Ranch Branch .
• Items are held for pick up for 7 days at the library location of your choice.

Returning Materials

Items checked out may be returned to any Mesa Public Library location. Click here for locations.

Bookdrops: We have bookdrops for books and audio/visual materials. The library cannot assume responsibility for damage or theft of items returned in the outside bookdrops. Bookdrops are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, except on holidays.

How to Renew

You may renew in one of three ways:

  1. Using My Account Online

  2. By Telecirc (our telephone renewal system)

  3. In person

1. Renewing Using My Account Online

Please follow these instructions to renew your materials using My Account:

  1. Click on the My Account link at the top of this page.

  2. Type in your Mesa Public Library card number and PIN.

  3. Click on Login.

  4. In your Items Checked Out list, click once on the checkbox next to the item you want to renew to put a checkmark in the box.

  5. Click on the Renew button at the top of the screen.

  6. If your renewal is successful, your new due date will be listed in the Items Checked Out list.

  7. To protect your privacy, logout of iPac using the Logout link at upper right-hand corner of the screen.

2. Renewing by Telecirc (our telephone renewal system)

Telecirc is an automated telephone system you can use to call the library to get information regarding your library record, such as the number and titles of books checked out, fines and holds ready for pickup.

  1. Dial (480) 644-3986 from a touchtone phone.

  2. Enter your library card number.

  3. Enter your PIN.

  4. Follow spoken directions.

  5. Either press * to disconnect at any time or press # to return to the menu of options.

3. Renewing in person

Present your library card at the Check Out desk at any of the three Mesa Libraries during regular hours.

How to Place an Item on Hold
  1. In person at the Ask Here or Check Out desk.

  2. Call (480) 644-3100. Please have your library card number ready.

  3. Click here for instructions on how to place a hold online.

The Library will notify you by telephone when the item is available. Please remember you must bring the library card on which you placed the hold in order to pick up any hold item.

Frequently Asked Questions about Library Cards

I am a winter visitor, can I get a Library card?
Yes. Visitors must provide a local address and a permanent address. Your social security number is requested but not required.

I lost my Library card. What do I do now?
Report lost or stolen cards to the Check Out Desk at any Mesa Library or call us at 480-644-2723. If you would like to replace the card, you will need to bring identification in to the Check Out desk. A replacement card costs $2.00

How do I find out information about my card or my children's cards (i.e. due dates, fines, books on hold, etc.)?
You can find out your fines by calling the library at 480-644-2723, using My Account on the website, or calling Telecirc. Please have your Library card number(s) ready. We cannot give you any information about your library card account(s) via email.
